What is French Club and how do I join?
French Club is one of the largest and most popular clubs on campus. This year we are celebrating 30 years of French Club!!!! It is open to anyone interested in French culture. You don't have to be enrolled in French class to be a member. Our first big event this year was the play "The Fools" by Moliere (the "French Shakespeare") in Santa Monica. We plan to go to Medieval Times in March, the annual Boum de Noel (Christmas Party), a trip to see the new movie version of Les Miserables in January, another movie trip in January to see the 3-D movie version of Cirque du Soleil, and the biggest and best end of the year French Club Banquet ever! Other possible events include Renaissance Faire, Friday French Film Fests, and holiday parties. Come to the meetings and help decide which events we want to plan and vote on a design for the club shirt. You will need to fill out an application form, get it signed by your parent/guardian, and turn in $3.00 dues. Don't miss out on the fun!!

Santa Monica Playhouse- THE FOOLS - a comedy by Moliere - Sat., Oct.13, 2012
Our trip to see THE FOOLS was a big success- "un succes fou"! We had over 30 French Club members plus 8 Drama students from Mr. G. Rodriguez's Drama classes Faculty Chaperones (Mr. Bentley) and some BGHS retirees. The play was a very funny comedy with original songs written by the producers of the show. We were so impressed with this Repertory Theater- they act, they sing, they dance, they fence, they swing, they sew their own costumes, they do it all! Very talented performers and wonderful warm-hearted people. They spent approx. 15 minutes after the show doing a "Talk Back" with the audience - answering all of our questions about the play and acting as a career/passion. We were surprised to learn that the handsome Marquis is a Huntington Park English teacher by day and actor by night. His beautiful leading lady Orphice has been in over 100 plays at the Santa Monica Playhouse and starred in her first play there at age 8! The cast also called Madame Kightlinger up to the stage after the show and presented her with a certificate honoring her for 30 years of sharing her love of French and Moliere with her students. Everybody loved this very funny comedy by Moliere and a special eveing in Santa Monica. We hope to go there again.
This was our first BIG event of the year - a trip to Santa Monica to see a play and eat dinner before the show. Click on this link to check out the Play called THE FOOLS at Santa Monica Playhouse. http://santamonicaplayhouse.com/
It's a very funny comedy written originally in French by France's most famous playwright- Moliere - sometimes called "The French Shakespeare". Read all about him on this link: http://www.imagi-nation.com/moonstruck/clsc35.html
The Santa Monica Playhouse only has 64 seats - we had 50 of them! The price was $30 per person and included the play, the bus, and a delicious dinner at the theater before the show (Menu du Jour - salad, chicken, potatoes, veg, roll, and beverage).
Students had an hour before the show to have fun at the Santa Monica Pier http://www.santamonica.com/visitors/what-to-do/attractions/santa-monica-pier/ http://pacpark.com/mobile/tickets.php or shopping on the Pedestrians Only 3rd Street Promenade: http://www.santamonica.com/visitors/what-to-do/shopping/downtown/
